We recently visited a National Natural Landmark right here in Alabama. It is Dismals Canyon. It is a gorge and wilderness that was created by ancient earthquakes. There are hemlock trees down in the gorge that have never been axed or harvested. Dismal Creek flows through the whole canyon and creates a very humid environment, therefore moss is on every space available. I can't even describe the natural beauty that is around every corner in this gorge. It took my breath away...literally. If you are ever in the northwestern part of Alabama, be sure to set aside the time to visit Dismals Canyon. There's probably not many places such as this in the world.

Looks like a fun day! I wanted to visit there while we still lived in AL, but just didn't make it. Maybe one of these days...
